At eve we love waking up in our own beds, so when we do venture away from home the rooms we’re destined for need to be pretty special.
Lucky for us there are more and more quirky and cool places to stay popping up all over the world. Here are a handful of our wishlist for the UK.
jam house, isle of mull, scotland
Hop a ferry from the mainland and find your way to the Jam House (one of three cottages) on an organic 30-acre croft.
This is a properly secluded destination with seal and otter watching instead of television, and a cow and donkey to befriend instead of an internet connection to the outside world.
living room treehouse, wales
Surrounded by woodland, and the Welsh mountains, these treehouses look absolutely spectacular. With a wood burning stove, a spring water shower (not to mention a recommendation from George Clarke), and no electricity, this promises to be a proper getaway.
coracle the yurt, dorset
Near the Jurassic Coast, this hand made yurt has a king size bed, an “oak tree shower”, BBQ and log burner – it really does sound like luxury glamping.
And if you’d rather not hide away in your hideaway, there are shared facilities up the boardwalk including a sauna and wood-fired pizza oven. There are even green wood craft workshops on site to join in, if that’s your cup of tea.
boathouse at knotts end
Situated in the Lake District, this beautiful retreat for two looks pretty idyllic whether you want to sail, hike or just laze about admiring the view of your private lake and jetty.
railway house, norfolk
An old train station turned boutique hotel on the North Norfolk coast, you can even sit out on what used to be the station platform.
As well as the internal guest rooms, the piece de resistance is the beautiful Railway Carriage (pictured above), decorated like something off of the ol’ silver screen, and sitting atop real (but disconnected, rest-assured) railway tracks.
living architecture’s house for essex
This incredible building is the brainchild of Grayson Perry and FAT Architecture. Covered in over 2000 handmade ceramic tiles, and filled with specially commissioned art works by Perry, this house can only be booked via ballot. Good luck to us all.
Have you visited any of these destinations? Or got a travel wish list of your own you’d like to share? Give us a shout.
